Self Evaluation

After finishing the speech and reading several different peer evaluations from my classmates, I found out that my major weakness in this speech was gestures and eye contact. First of all with gestures, because I focused myself too much on trying to keep my pace through out the speech and trying not to stumble on words, I missed my cues for my gestures. Maybe by practicing more with my gestures and actually creating gestures that have similar flow with my speech I could have improved my gestures during the speech. With eye contact, despite the fact that I made several eye contact, what I lacked was the period of time I was looking at the audience. Because I only looked at the audience for a quite short period of time, it sometimes even looked like as if I didn't do an eye contact. By being more familiar with the words on my speech, it would make my eye contact much more easier and longer. By being comfortable with the words I am saying, the shorter I would need to look at my speech on the paper and deliver my words to the audience.

Through out the speech, I actually realized that probably something I did well was having loud and clear voice. Also I heard from some people that I did pretty good in using dynamics of my voice. Because in speeches speaking clearly is the most important in delivering the words that you want people to believe, I tried to take it slow but have a certain pace that I wanted to keep for myself in order to get the message across. Also by being able to use different dynamics in my voice, I was able to emphasize and point out the facts that I really wanted to express and persuade people to believe in what I think. By being able have clear pronunciation and voice of my speech to the audience, I was satisfied and believed that I was successful in getting my main message across to the audience. One thing I wish I could have done is trying to really sound like a persuasive speech to the audience and maybe loosen up a little bit to sound more casual which can make it easier to interact with the audience and be able to actually communicate through this speech.
